Shun-kin

3 Titans of Theatre
What a title
A title that naturally and unexpectedly gains much expectation

I didn't want to find out who came up with the title
I wouldn't too
I wouldn't want to ponder whether such title is appropriate
Whether it's appropriate to have such title in the theatre scene
Whether it's appropriate to give such title to theatre makers

Perhaps it's only appropriate to award such title to show an utter respect for the masters of the craft

Especially for Shun-kin

It is a story of the great era
The era when the society changed
The people changed
The behaviours changed
The minds changed

The story alone stands proudly as a great art

And you need much greater art to record and display this great art

I didn't read the original text
But the rendition by Complicite and Setagaya Public Theatre demonstrated how the great arts work

They created a void in the theatre
They boxed periods of time on the stage
They painted textures of scenes between incidents
They animated fleshy and emotional movements
They softened and choreographed rigid techniques
They dissolved boundaries of old and new crafts
They catalyzed permeability of the essences

If I could understand the language they spoke
I would dance along with them

They scared the hell out of the theatre maker wannabes
They planted the monument for everyone to look up to
No matter how fictitious its look is
No matter how far in the sky its tip is

It's like the bygone era in the story
It fascinates you when you search
It grabs you when you stare
It pulls you when you step forward

You never see it
You never get it
But it's still fun. Yup.
The best fun, in fact. Yup.

(To myself) "Enjoy."
